All-Sections Camp

All-Sections Camp will be held at Camp Barnard this year, from Friday September 25th to Sunday September 27.

The camp registration form is available here (pdf format).

This year we have Mang and Rama circles, Mor kitchen, and Thomson Field for tenting. Click on this link or on the map to the right to see where these areas are.

The theme for this year is Pioneer Camp, where we learn a number of 'survival' skills including fire making, map reading, first aid, knots and shelter building. Weather permitting, we'll also go canoing on Young Lake.

Please arrive at Camp Barnard on Friday between 6-7pm "well fed". There will be a light snack ("mug up") just before bed.

Saturday will a busy, exciting day with breakfast at 7am, camp opening at 9, followed by a full day of activities. After dinner there will be some free time, followed by a group campfire with stories and songs. If the weather permits, we might even watch the moon for a bit (the "giant full moon" is actually sunday evening).

Parents should arrive on Sunday at 10pm to assist in camp cleanup. Camp closing will be held at 10:30 and we should all be leaving by 11am. The kids will have had breakfast Sunday morning, but it has been our experience that by noon they will likely be ravenous (so please plan to bring a snack for the drive home and/or plan to stop for lunch).

All parents are expected to assist in camp cleanup Sunday morning. Cleanup is a big job - the washrooms and kitchen have to be cleaned, and the floors swept and mopped. We have to leave the camp areas we used clean and ready for the next group.

Kids will have had breakfast Sunday morning. We have to start cleaning up the kitchen right after breakfast, so the kids will probably be ravenous when you depart. Based on personal experience, please bring along a snack or lunch for them to eat in the car, or plan to stop somewhere; tired and hungry kids can get real grumpy.

Camp Volunteers

We will need some parent volunteers to help at the camp. All adults attending camp must have a valid PRC (Police Records Check). An online signup sheet for volunteer positions will be posted shortly.

Getting to Camp Barnard

Camp Barnard is located just past Sooke - so it will take 1hr15 or even more (especially depending on after-work traffic). Driving instructions can be found on the Camp Barnard website. Note: my GPS does a terrible job finding Young Lake Road. It gets me onto Otter Point Road just fine, but keeps telling me to turn about a mile too soon, into someone's driveway. Watch for the Scout logo signs...

Pictures from the Camp are available here.
